Full bio

Papa Nubs Organ Trio (PNOT) is a Midwest blues, soul-jazz and funk organ trio centered on one-handed keyboard player Christian “Papa Nubs” Dyble. Gritty, high-energy and deep in the pocket, the band plays the vintage sounds of the golden-era Hammond groups with a modern blues take: NU.

Multi-instrumentalist Papa Nubs brings a brass player’s sense of phrasing to the keys, spinning high-octane, horn-like lines with his right hand while his left-arm nub locks down the rhythm section with deep bass lines and grooves. On guitar, Tyler Furrer brings years of experience on Nashville’s Broadway, and his dirty, country-blues approach slots naturally into the organ-trio sound. Behind the kit, Ryan Thomas is the conductor of this train. Fiery and inventive, he pushes the band further and deeper into uncharted rhythmic territory. Intense and energetic, with classical training behind him, he’s an unstoppable rhythmic force.

PNOT digs mostly into the ’50s-to-’70s catalog of classic soul-jazz and Blue Note–era tunes, plus originals inspired by that golden era. It’s all grounded in a groove-first, blues-centered approach that isn’t shy about modern hip-hop rhythms and backbeats, so it lands with everyone from the Hammond die-hard to listeners hearing a Hammond for the very first time.
